The Before and After Shot

In deciding to commit to doing this blog - I had to soul search.  Sure, I could do the typical blog thing, but honest to god,  who needs to read another blog.  Every day in my email account, I am now just deleting blog after blog - I'm not even tempted by subject: openopenopen.

I'm going to do something that makes me jump out of bed, and say to myself, "kiddo, let them see some fantastic stuff that you love."

So everyday, I'm going to present to you the best creative in the world.  Sometimes I'll write about people who are DOING.  There's real inspiration out there!

Let's have a look at some stuff that I love.

On occasion, we're asked to send someone ( a potential client/employer) a portfolio or sample of our work.  Here is a brilliantly simple approach from Design Ranch to steal - did I say steal?  I meant borrow, be inspired, copy.  Ha!  Picasso said, "Good artists borrow, great artists steal."

Is sending something in the post a dead thing?  If you created mail like Stephen Kroninger your friends would be begging for more.  Direct mail has become something obsolete - so why fight the digital crowd?  Send personal, business, marketing stuff that's authentically you.  If you go to my direct mail pinterest board, you'll see a whole big bowl of fantastic images from some incredible talent.

Cornelia Konrads makes your brain go ...whaaaaattt??

I actually laughed out loud at this clever tag.  There is nothing more creative than excellent, subtle humor - but this is a super example of"authentic" in case you're wondering.

“A lighted match does not cause a fire. Rather, a fire takes place because of a particular combination of elements of which the lighted match is just one.” Esko Kilpi wrote this and I think it means there is never just one thing that makes an opportunity happen, or an idea to come alive or one person that will make a difference. Sure, it starts with one match - but many more elements must be in place. Look to get input/help/advice/a community behind you to ignite that bonfire!
This image by Luke Stephenson is so fantastic.  It's surprising, funny, charming and deliberate.  It makes me think of doing a profile pic in this format - you know, along the lines of how people look like their pets... You could add a speaker bubble, do the 'voice' of your bio as the pet...

So simply...simple, elegant yet fun and incredibly creative.  It's absolutely one of those "why didn't I think of that?"  Good news is, you can relax your brain for a moment and steal this idea.  You're welcome.

How cool are these business cards?  But what else could you do with this idea?  If you created a wire signature and then photographed it - could it become your signature at the end of your posts, or on a mailing or on a t-shirt or clothing tag if you're into fashion - yup... I see that light go on.
